About Dr. Melton

Welcome to my website! I’m Dr. LaShelle Melton, a dedicated Doctoral prepared Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a passion for transforming lives through mental health advocacy and education. My journey from a challenging childhood in South Memphis, Tennessee, to earning my doctoral degree is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of positive self-affirmation. Growing up in a single-parent household, I faced various forms of feelings of worthlessness, anger, fear, low self-esteem, and suicidal ideation. Despite these challenges, I learned early on the importance of speaking positivity over myself. This practice of self-affirmation became my shield against negativity, empowering me to overcome the struggles that lay ahead. I became a mother at a young age, balancing the responsibilities of parenthood with my education. While I was an honor roll student, my journey took a detour when I dropped out of school in the 10th grade. On my 18th birthday, I found myself the mother of two children with only a 9th-grade education. Determined to change my circumstances, I obtained my GED in August 1997, fueled by the desire to set a strong example for my children.

In 2005, I started my Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program and proudly completed it in 2007, passing my boards despite skepticism. I became a Registered Nurse (RN) in 2009 but faced profound loss when I became a widow in 2010. The grief was overwhelming, and it took me three years to break free from the depths of depression. By 2014, I was ready to rebuild. I prevailed through two battles with colorectal cancer and earned my Bachelor’s degree in 2015. Each challenge seemed designed to knock me down, but I refused to stay down. I persevered and completed my Master’s degree in 2019, culminating in my Doctorate in 2023. From a high school dropout to a doctoral graduate, my story embodies the spirit of resilience and transformation. Today, I am not just a voice speaking positivity; I live it every day. I am deeply committed to giving back to my community and mentoring young women who share similar experiences. I believe that true empowerment comes from showing others what overcoming obstacles looks like in real life. Life is truly what you make it, and I ask you: Are you ready to fight for your purpose? I shared some of my story to inspire you to seek the help you need even if it is not at Melton Telepsychiatry Services Clinic and prepare yourself to live life as a better version of you.

I invite you to connect with me for public speaking engagements where I share more of my story and the valuable lessons learned along the way. Together, we can inspire change, foster resilience, and ignite hope in the hearts of those who need it most. My “Black Girl Magic” is the unwavering commitment to fight for my purpose, and I want to help you uncover yours too.  Thank you for visiting, and I look forward to embarking on this journey of empowerment together!
